Es gibt sie wirklich, die Väter, die ihren Kindern die eigene Brust anbieten. Auf fünf Kontinenten wurden sie gesucht. Dies ist nun eins der Ergebnisse der internationalen Vaterschafts-Studie FatherWorld des britischen Informationszentrums Father's Direct.

Danach gibt es die weltweit besten Väter im Nordkongo in Zentral-Afrika. Es sind die Väter des Aka-Pygmäen-Stamms, die noch ursprüngliche Jäger und Sammler sind. Wenn die Mutter grad nicht da ist, bekommen die schreienden Säuglinge zur Beruhigung die väterliche Brust bis das Fütterungsproblem gelöst ist. Schließlich ist eine männlich Brustwarze optimal konstruiert  und kann einem Baby außer Nahrung alles bieten: Nähe, Geborgenheit und kieferfreundliches Saugen.

In Europa ist das anders. Laut Studie hat nur jeder dritte Vater regelmäßig Zeit für seine Kinder. Ausnahmeland auch hier ist Schweden. Die Schweden sind nicht nur als Super-Väter bekannt, sie übernehmen laut Studie tatsächlich rund 45 Prozent der Hege und Pflege eines Kindes, die anderen europäischen Väter höchstens ein Drittel. Auch hier liegen die Männer des Aka-Stamms weltweit an der Spitze. Sie übernehmen mehr Pflichten für ihre Kinder als es von irgendeiner anderen Gesellschaftsform berichtet wird. Fast die Hälfte des Tages sind sie in Reichweite der Kinder oder halten auf dem Arm oder im Tragetuch. Auch nachts sind es eher die Aka-Männer, die sich um die aufgewachten Säuglinge kümmern.
Im weltweiten Vergleich zu Müttern tragen Väter durchschnittlich gerade 25-30 Prozent zu den allgemeinen Anstrengungen der Aufzucht bei. Nur etwa jeder fünfte hat nach Ergebnissen der Studie eine enge Verbindung zu Kleinkindern, während die Analyse von 156 verschiedenen Kulturen zeigt, dass nur 5 Prozent, also jeder zwanzigste Vater mit Babies umgehen kann.Der Kinder-Psychiater Sebastian Krämer vom Whittington Hospital in London sagte dazu, es sei wohl möglich, dass dies in vorgeschichtlichen Gesellschaften das Normalverhalten von Vätern gewesen sei. Wir sollten aus einer 10.000jährigen Geschichte heraus nicht annehmen, dass unser vorherrschendes Modell das Richtige sei.

Then there are the world's best fathers in North Congo in Central Africa. They are the fathers of the Aka Pygmy Tribe who are still original hunters and gatherers.
